Caesar's Legacy
Ceasar left a huge impact on the city of Rome even after he died. In his will he said that his villa, the gardens around it, and his art gallery all be made public. He also distributed his wealth to the people of Rome, leaving 300,000 sesterces to each citizen. Overall Caesar wanted to make Rome a cultural and educational center of the Mediterranean world by attracting people to the city. Julius Caesar had changed the nature of the Roman Empire and he got rid of the old, corrupt system of the late Roman republic. Caesar had almost completely eliminated Rome's debt and he employed thousands of people through the creation of government jobs and other jobs. Caesar spread the wealth around so everyone had something and he gave Rome a "reborn" look by building new public buildings that were grand and prominent. Caesar made Rome stronger and safer and improved the standard of living for the citizens of Rome. He had set Rome on the path to be the most powerful city and republic in the world but that great power proved to be fatal for Rome. Rome's future rulers were not capable or handling such power and eventually Rome fell. Caesar had set an example for future European leaders to live up to with his ambition and determination. He proved that if other rulers persevered through tough times, that they eventually would be successful. He also showed that when a ruler is loved by the citizens, the ruler has even more power and they can improve and expand the country in any way they wish. With the support of the citizens of a country a ruler is almost unstoppable and will achieve their goals.
